Oiling Festival
From New Babbage Department of Records and Archives
The annual week long factory shut down for cleaning and maintenance has evolved into a city wide event known as the Oiling Festival. It is our version of spring cleaning.
The first Oiling Festival was initiated by Mosseveno Tenk to get some much needed bridges built in Wheatstone Waterways, which at the time was impossible to traverse by foot. One thing led to another as people thought of other things that were needed by the City, including an Naval Jack, tartans, and clutter that would make the Port look more lived in. Aeolus Cleanslate suggested a category for a Honking Big Machine, and the rest is history. Selected objects created at the Oiling Festivals are added to city inventory for future use.
The second Oiling Festival created the sea gate in Babbage Canals that may or may not be intended to keep the merfolk from entering the city.
While less objects are needed by the city today, the Oiling Festival continues as a celebration of the joy of building. Builders are encouraged to build on the ground, share techniques and critiques, and overall become better builders. The categories are designed so builders of any skill level are able to participate.
