“So tell me this,” Jed asked once Cortman had left, “when you got the blind doctor to examine Arnold, did the cat have any bruises or injuries other than the missing fur?”

It had been a frustrating time for Bookworm. She and others of the Militia had been searching for the killer, but could find no leads. The disappearance of the second body certainly hadn’t helped matters, either. She could feel the mood of the city growing more on edge, tensed, as if waiting for the next blow.
Dec. 31 - One Body Gone...
Bookworm Hienrichs entered the Militia headquarters, and spotted her quarry. “Harry,” she called to another Militia member. “Doc Miggins is ready to do the autopsy on the body found by my place. Where did you put it?”
“Me?” Harry looked at her, puzzled.
“Didn’t you and Paul go there yesterday to retrieve it?”

“He's missing a patch from his chest.”
Bookworm hissed in a breath. Arnold blanched. “Where?!” he exclaimed. He looked down, feeling around his chest, looking first horrified, then relieved. “Here?” He indicated a spot on the center of his chest.
Dr. Sonnerstein looked at him keenly. “Yes.”
