Bookworm followed the track that she had worn into the snow, cutting across lots and through narrow alleyways, until she reached the asylum. She knocked once, as a warning, then unlocked the door with Arnold’s keys, which she was still keeping custody of.

It was a few minutes before the excited fox turned down to Id and asked, “Can we knock it off with normal stuff?” The orange eye blinked twice. “Bother!”

Bookworm sighed. "I was afraid of that. When I shot at it last week, it didn't seem at all concerned.”

“Silver?  Geee... three times again!” Tepic exclaimed.

Bookworm Hienrichs was snatching a few hours at home, attending to Arnold’s needs while Mariah and Mrs. Pritchard rested, when she heard a knock at the door. Peering through the window, she saw Tepic standing there, smiled, and hurried to let him in. “Hello, Tepic.

“‘Ello, Miss Book! How’s the patient?” he asked.

Cyan, in the meantime, sat by the fire and opened his book--tales from Edgar Allan Poe. He made sure to avoid ‘The Raven,’ settling instead on ‘The Black Cat.’ He had read Jules Verne the last time he was here, but had thought his friend would prefer these stories.
