Personal Information
- Introduction
A confirmed eccentric, explorer, and knowledge-sponge. Intrepid inventor seeking her place in the world and the fundamental secrets of the universe. Proprietoress of "Fairywren Electrics & Scientific", #2 Loner Lane, Port Babbage.
- Origins
Appearing about a year ago to the streets of New Babbage, she claims to have arrived via ocean steamer intent on a fact-finding mission which she has yet to specify its focus or intent. Also unspecified is her exact point of origin, stating one of the wild overseas colonies, possibly an isolated former protectorate of the Empire. When prodded, she will wave dismissively and state she hails from a foolish place, where the populace is content to manipulate nature without a single thought to how it works. Her emigration was based on finding a new home in a progressive community - to express a desire to converse, debate, learn and apply knowledge of the fundamental workings of the universe.
She has the bearing, and dresses, in a manner not unlike a well-to-do lady and has demonstrated quite a fondness for the finer things in life including the luxuries of unrestrained discourse and abstract intellectual inquiries ... usually over a pint of the black stuff or a goblet of Absinthe of which she is especially partial to. She is an absolute fiend for a cup of tea, believing wholeheartedly in it being the solution for pretty much any contingency. A confirmed night owl, and in possession of great energy and enthusiasm, she is frequently up well past others' bedtimes, reading, performing experiments, or exploring the streets. Although she abhors weaponry and warfare in general, she carries an Aetherpistol on the advice of a good and learned friend, which is saved her life more than once.
As to her profession, she was trained as a teacher with a wide knowledge of the sciences with physics with the new field of electricity as her speciality. Though possessing a good theoretical and mathematical background, she is very much lacking in practical experience and applications. Her ambitious, curious and impatient nature frequently outstrips her current ability - sometimes leading to wondrous discoveries, or catastrophic accidents. She learns fast, and believes she can learn to do anything - given enough time and a well-written manual.
She is frequently awe-struck by the myriad technological wonders found everywhere in New Babbage. It is believed she had an initial phobia of airships but has calmed down considerably, due to the frequency of air traffic overhead, and in her short stay has even indicated an interest both in air travel and the mechanics of airship engines and avionics ... and possible improvements that could be made to both.
She has shown herself to be somewhat of a shy eccentric, sometimes avoiding crowds and the company of others on her nocturnal wanders about town. Occasionally, she has been sighted standing in a square with a vacant expression on her face - eyes unfocused and a mind obviously miles (or continents) away. A certain mysterious energy seems to pervade her presence and several odd occurrences have been circumstantially attributed to her. The more soft-headed gossip-mongers even claim she possesses powers of the supernatural, a claim she refuses to acknowledge or refute.
She currently lives in a cozy room above her modest shop at #2 Loner Lane, Port Babbage.
- Notes
"hmm, its all very interesting, but what if we ran an electric current through it?"
"Though I agree that setting fire to one's subject is a sure way of divining its chemical composition, sadly, it is not reproducible, therefore cannot be considered good scientific practice."
